The new terminal of the airport was built with a modern design to which a new infrastructure (Domestic Terminal Annex Building) was recently annexed, to reach 41 million travelers per year bringing the implementation of new services to the Terminal including parking, cargo services, general aviation terminals and hotel services.

The airport facility is named after Sabiha Gökçen, the adopted daughter of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the world's first female fighter pilot.
