Istanbul Ataturk Airport, opened in 1924, was Turkey's main airport and is now a general aviation and freight airport. It is located in Yeşilköy in the European part of Istanbul.
Closed for commercial passenger flights on April 6, 2019 when all flights have been transferred to the new Istanbul airport, the airport is only open for freight, maintenance, general aviation, air taxis, corporate and state and diplomatic aircraft flights, while passenger flights commercials leave from the new Istanbul airport.
Istanbul Ataturk Airport is operated by TAV Airports Co., a leading brand in Turkey in the global sector of airports and operates in several airports in Turkey and in other countries. In 2012, 38% of TAV Airports’ shares was sold to Aéroports de Paris Group.
