EDI Airport

Edinburgh

Edinburgh Airport is located in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is the busiest airport in Scotland and the sixth busiest airport in the United Kingdom. The airport is located six miles west of Edinburgh city center and is well located, allowing for quick and efficient transport links across the country.

The history of Edinburgh Airport begins in 1916, when Turnhouse Aerodrome opened as a military base during the First World War. In 1918, with the formation of the Royal Air Force, the airfield became the RAF Turnhouse. During the Second World War, the first airstrip was built and the first commercial flights began in 1947.

In the 1970s, BAA gained control of Edinburgh Airport, with the first new terminal opened to the public in 1977 by the Queen. In fact, the current terminal was designed by Robert Matthew and built in 1977. Since then, the airport has continued to grow in the following decades, with a new parking area and a new arrivals hall. In 2012 Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) took over the property from BAA, bringing new routes, improved passenger facilities and a terminal expansion.

The airport offers all the necessary services for traveling passengers such as lounges (Plaza Premium, Aspire and British Airways lounges), food areas with bars, restaurants and shops, duty free for shopping at the airport.

Edinburgh Airport offers routes to over 150 destinations served by several airlines and is a hub for low-cost airlines EasyJet and Ryanair.
