Palermo Airport, over 68 million in investments per terminal

Enac and Gesap sign the 2024-2027 Program Contract: new gates, infrastructural adjustments, interventions on flight surfaces and greater operational capacity for the Falcone Borsellino are planned

Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport enters a new phase of infrastructural development. Enac and Gesap, the management company of the Palermo airport, have signed the Program Contract for the 2024-2027 regulatory period, which provides for over 68 million euros of investments for the passenger terminal, flight infrastructure, operational safety and sustainability.

The agreement was signed on 1 July 2026 in Rome, at the Palazzo dell'Aviazione Civile, by ENAC General Manager Alexander D'Orsogna and Gesap CEO Gianfranco Battisti, in the presence of Gesap General Manager Carmelo Scelta.

For passengers, the program means a more efficient airport, with renovated spaces, greater operational capacity and interventions designed to improve the travel experience. The planned works include the implementation and adaptation of the passenger terminal, the construction of new gates in the front of the terminal and a new part of the terminal intended to significantly increase the overall capacity of the airport.

The plan also includes the completion of the general seismic retrofitting project and a thorough renovation of the terminal. These are strategic interventions to accompany the growth of traffic, strengthen the quality of airport services and make Palermo airport increasingly competitive in the national and European network.

A significant share of the investments will be dedicated to airport safety and extraordinary maintenance of flight surfaces, through APMS interventions, as well as the strengthening of critical plant systems. These works are essential to ensure operational continuity, safety and reliability of the infrastructures used every day by passengers, airlines and airport operators.

The Program Contract with Gesap is the third signed by ENAC in 2026, after those relating to the airports of Catania and Cagliari, and the thirteenth since the definition of the model scheme adopted by the Authority. The process was concluded after the positive outcome of the ENAC technical investigation, the definition of the new airport charges with the Transport Regulation Authority and the approval resolution of the ENAC Board of Directors on 22 June 2026.

In the framework of Italian airport planning, the agreement for Palermo represents an important step in aligning the airport with European performance standards, supporting territorial development and promoting air transport increasingly oriented towards innovation, sustainability, intermodality and quality of services.

With the investments planned for the four-year period 2024-2027, Falcone Borsellino airport strengthens its role as a strategic gateway to western Sicily, serving Travellers heading to Palermo, coastal resorts, inland villages, the island's main tourist destinations and Sicily's World Heritage Sites.
