HyperTwin Leads the Evolution of Future Air Mobility
On December 3, 2025, during the inauguration of the new Civil Aviation Palace, ENAC and the Department for Digital Transformation (DTD) shared the advances of HyperTwin, the digital platform designed to revolutionize advanced air mobility in Italy.
One year after its presentation, the project confirms its central role in the development of a national ecosystem dedicated to drones and eVTOLs, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft also intended for passenger transport.
Born from an agreement between ENAC and DTD, HyperTwin aims to simplify and accelerate the authorization process and the management of future innovative air services, creating a context in which institutions, companies and stakeholders can share data and skills in transparency. The goal is to build a reliable digital infrastructure, capable of accompanying Italy towards a more sustainable, multimodal mobility integrated with the territory.
The platform represents a decisive step in the evolution of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), intended to reduce land traffic and enhance the electrification of transport. Drones and air taxis will in fact allow rapid and low-emission operations, useful for health services, emergencies, logistics and connections in areas that are difficult to reach.
The initiative also supports the creation of cross-industry technology hubs dedicated to vertical mobility, accelerating collaboration between different supply chains and the development of new service models.
During the ceremony, the progress of the National Advanced Mobility Strategic Plan 2021-2030, jointly drawn up by ENAC, DTD and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, was illustrated. Experts and institutional representatives discussed the next steps to build an increasingly efficient and inclusive digital ecosystem.
Opening the proceedings, ENAC President Pierluigi Di Palma underlined how drones and new technologies are transforming mobility: "The future is already here. We must recognize that drones and new technologies have transformed our daily lives. In the field of air mobility, ENAC is anticipating innovation with Regional Air Mobility (RAM), with which we guarantee fast travel by traditional means, waiting to be able to develop traffic when drones for passenger transport arrive."
HyperTwin allows you to simulate scenarios, assess their feasibility and build safe operating procedures for the control of future air services. Italy is thus preparing to enter the new era of vertical mobility, laying the foundations for a more modern and sustainable air system.
