Emirates and Enoc join forces to develop Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Dubai

A new Memorandum of Understanding aims to create a local SAF supply chain to supply the Dubai hub and support the UAE's Net Zero goals

Emirates and ENOC Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the development of the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for the airline's flights at its Dubai hub. The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow, defines a framework for cooperation to study the feasibility of local production and distribution of sustainable aviation fuel.

The partnership involves carrying out studies on supply chain infrastructure, production capacities and the economic sustainability of the projects, with the aim of identifying the most efficient solutions to make SAF available on a regular basis. A joint steering committee will lead the analysis, while ENOC will assess its contribution to local production, in line with the UAE's pathway towards supplying 1% of jet fuel from domestic SAF by 2031.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel, which is fully compatible with existing fleet and infrastructure, can be blended up to 50% with traditional fuel, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions over the entire life cycle. In its pure form, SAF can reduce emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel, representing a key lever for the decarbonization of air transport.

Emirates is already committed to the development of the SAF ecosystem at the national level, participating in government technical roundtables and promoting sustainable fuel demonstration flights on its Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft. In the 2024-25 financial year, the company purchased thousands of tons of SAF at several international airports, confirming its willingness to progressively integrate sustainable fuel into global operations and contribute to the UAE's Net Zero 2050 targets.
