Skyscanner integrates trains into research: a new era for multimodal planning
Travel becomes more and more integrated. Skyscanner expands its offering by introducing train search and comparison directly within the platform, allowing users to compare flights and rail solutions in the same search flow.
A strategic innovation that strengthens the multimodal approach in travel planning, offering greater flexibility, transparency and a more sustainable alternative on medium-short routes.
Trains on Skyscanner: how it works
Rail options automatically appear in search results when they are a competitive choice, especially for routes of less than eight hours or with fast connections.
You can:
- Search for a destination by simply entering the city or airport
- View rail solutions below flight results
- compare travel times and prices
- complete the booking through integrated partners.
Major rail operators involved include Eurostar, Renfe, Italo, Deutsche Bahn, ScotRail, Korail, and Ouigo, with tickets available for purchase through partners such as Trip.com.
The routes already available
The feature is currently being rolled out in several markets, including Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and South Korea, with the possibility of booking up to 90 days before departure.
Among the most popular routes already on the platform:
- London - Edinburgh
- London - Paris
- London - Brussels
- London - Amsterdam
- Paris - Amsterdam
In Italy, the integration allows you to view and compare high-speed routes operated by Italo and other partner operators.
More sustainability and less complexity
The introduction of trains responds to a growing demand for more sustainable travel solutions. Rail transport, especially on electrified lines, has lower emissions per passenger than air transport over short and medium distances.
With this integration, Skyscanner simplifies decision-making, eliminating the need to consult separate platforms to compare different media.
Towards an integrated travel ecosystem
The upgrade represents an important step towards a multimodal planning model, in which the traveler can choose the most convenient option in terms of time, price and environmental impact.
The expansion of the service will continue in the coming months with the addition of new routes and markets, consolidating Skyscanner's role as the reference platform for intelligent travel comparison.
