Changi Airport inaugurates the "Calm Room"
Singapore Changi Airport, recognized worldwide for the excellence of its services and attention to passenger comfort, has inaugurated the first sensory facility dedicated to neurodivergent Travellers: the Calm Room.
It is a space of over 200 square meters designed to offer a quiet and reassuring refuge to people with invisible disabilities and their caregivers, helping them to manage the sensory overload and stress typical of air travel.
Located in the transit area of Terminal 2, the Calm Room is part of the CARE@Changi program, the initiative with which the airport aims to make travel an accessible and serene experience for everyone.
The project was carried out thanks to the collaboration with the Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) and the Metta Welfare Association (MWA), as well as the direct contribution of families of neurodivergent people involved in interviews and feedback sessions.
The goal was to create a safe, welcoming and customizable space, able to respond to the different sensory and emotional needs of each traveler.
Four zones to regain calm and well-being
The Calm Room consists of four thematic areas, each designed to support different sensory needs:
- Welcome Area: acts as a transitional space between the movement of the terminal and the quiet environment of the room. Equipped with lockers and a virtual display with a Changi Experience Ambassador always available for personalized assistance.
- The Forest: the largest, immersive and biophilic area, with projections that reproduce Singapore's natural landscapes accompanied by sounds and relaxing music. It offers different seats and niches for rest or reflection.
- The Den: a more intimate environment, with upholstered walls and floors, designed for those who find balance through movement. Pebble-shaped cushions stimulate body perception and help with sensory regulation.
- The Nest: two private rooms with soundproofing and lights adjustable in tone and intensity, ideal for moments of greater vulnerability or for recovering calm after episodes of high stress.

With this initiative, Changi Airport confirms its vocation for social innovation and excellence in passenger service.
The airport, which connects Singapore to over 170 destinations around the world with almost 100 airlines and more than 7,200 weekly flights, is already recognized as one of the most awarded airports in the world for quality, safety and hospitality.
After the success of Jewel Changi Airport – the lifestyle complex with over 700 shops and restaurants opened in 2019 – the Calm Room marks a new step on the path towards an increasingly human, inclusive and sustainable airport, where every traveler can feel welcomed and understood.
