Trapani airport is equipped with a piano
The Vincenzo Florio airport in Trapani Birgi also becomes part of the small group of airports that choose music as a distinctive element of the travel experience. Departing passengers may come across a Yamaha upright piano, positioned in the security area of the terminal, between gates 2 and 3, beyond the security gates. A space designed not only for entertainment, but also to offer a taste of Trapani's vibrant musical culture.
The piano was donated by MeMA – Mediterranean Music Association of Trapani, with the intention of enhancing the airport as a gateway to the culture of the territory. For its inauguration, the airport was transformed into a small surprise theater: passengers bound for Malta and Rome Fiumicino were the involuntary protagonists of an exciting musical flash mob, led by maestro Andrea Certa, pianist and conductor, flanked by soprano Maria Alessia Salaris and mezzo-soprano Lara Rotili. The repertoire ranged from the great classics, from Fauré to Bizet, from Puccini to Gershwin, up to Offenbach.
The ceremony was attended by Salvatore Ombra, president of Airgest – the airport management company – and Giovanni De Santis, superintendent and artistic director of MeMA, who underlined the importance of cultural initiatives within transit places such as airports.
"Music unites, excites and welcomes – said Salvatore Ombra. We want our passengers to feel this attention to detail as well, and the initiative carried out with MeMA goes precisely in this direction. The plan is only a first step: in the coming months we will announce important developments on the infrastructural growth of the airport and on the increase in air traffic in Trapani".
Other musical activities by MeMA are scheduled to make the waiting time of travellers at Trapani airport even more pleasant.
