Rovaniemi Airport gets a makeover: new spaces and services for passengers by winter 2025
Rovaniemi Airport, the gateway to Lapland and the official "Santa Claus Airport", is preparing for a new season of growth. A new expansion of the departures terminal will be completed by winter 2025, part of Finavia's development program aimed at improving passenger comfort and the quality of services offered.
The expansion will add approximately 1,000 square meters to the departure lounge, with larger and brighter waiting areas, designed to offer relaxation and functionality. The goal is to ensure greater fluidity in travel flows, especially during the winter season, when thousands of tourists arrive every week to experience Christmas in Lapland.
At the same time, new points of sale dedicated to local handicrafts and souvenirs will be opened, offering passengers the opportunity to take an authentic souvenir of the trip with them. The focus will also be on sustainable Finnish brands, in line with Finavia's environmental policy.
Rovaniemi Airport will continue to maintain its distinctive identity, with environments inspired by the Aurora Borealis and scenic details that recall Christmas magic. The aim is to offer not only a starting point for Arctic adventures, but a real travel experience already inside the airport terminal.
All the new interventions are designed according to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability criteria. The airport, which has already achieved carbon neutrality in 2024, will use technologies to optimize energy consumption and ensure comfortable temperatures throughout the year, despite the Arctic climate.
