New car rental area at Genoa Airport
Work is proceeding on the renovation of Genoa's Cristoforo Colombo airport, a project worth a total of 12.6 million euros which, by 2026, will transform the airport into a modern and welcoming structure, capable of offering passengers a high-level travel experience.
In recent days, the new car rental area on the arrivals floor of Genoa airport has come into operation, an environment of about 300 square meters, bright and comfortable, with seats and information monitors on flights. In the room there are the desks of nine car rental companies (one more than in the past), all built from scratch and characterized by modern and recognizable designs.
The transfer of the car rental companies to this new location, closer to the parking lots, will allow the current arrivals area to be expanded and renovated, offering larger and more functional spaces for passengers.
The project of the new hall represents the first phase of the modernization plan of the terminal, which includes several interventions in the coming months:
- by March 2026: opening of new bar and restaurant points on the departures floor and in the domestic/community boarding lounges, as well as the new VIP Room for departing passengers, with a panoramic terrace on the upper floor.
- by April 2026: construction of the new check-in line with 22 workstations, equipped with self-service systems.
- by June 2026: complete redevelopment of the domestic and community boarding lounges, with new floors, false ceilings, furnishings and services, in line with the design of the new east wing inaugurated last March.
Subsequently, the Genoa Airport plan will also affect international boarding lounges, where new e-gates will be installed for automatic passport control, in order to speed up boarding procedures.
During 2026, the arrivals area will also be redeveloped – with a new bar and renovated waiting areas – and the border control area, also equipped with automated e-gates counters.
