Exhibitions to see at Malpensa during the summer

The great masters of international photography, from Steve McCurry to Cornell Capa, to Elliott Erwitt: what to see and where, between flights

Those who transit through Milan Malpensa this summer, precisely in the busiest weeks of the airport, find much more than a boarding gate waiting for them. The airport's cultural program is in fact enriched with two new photographic events - "Magnum America" and "World Water Day Photo Contest" -, which join the already ongoing exhibition dedicated to Steve McCurry, composing an itinerary capable of transforming the wait into an experience to be lived calmly.

Steve McCurry stays until the end of September
The season opened with "The World in Motion", the project that brings the large portraits signed by Steve McCurry to the windows of the check-in area of Terminal 1. Many of the faces depicted belong to Travellers met at Malpensa, a detail that has made the exhibition particularly loved by passengers and companions. Given the reception received, the blow-ups remain visible until 30 September.

Magnum America: seventy years of the United States in photography
From Forte di Bard, where it was a great success last winter, "Magnum America" now arrives at Malpensa, a project by Forte di Bard and Magnum Photos Paris and inspired by the 2024 volume of the same name Thames & Hudson. The exhibition is set up in the Art Hub space, on the mezzanine of the Food Court of Terminal 1, and can be visited until 4 October.

The story spans over seventy years of American history through the shots of some of the most important authors of Magnum Photos, including Cornell Capa, Elliott Erwitt and Werner Bischof. The exhibition returns a multifaceted portrait of the United States: the myth of the American dream, social transformations, battles for civil rights, daily life between large cities and provinces, up to the key moments of recent history. Founded in 1947, Magnum Photos has always chosen America as the privileged terrain of its visual research, building an archive of images that have become iconic.

The arrival of the exhibition coincides with the renewal of the agreement between SEA and the Forte di Bard, the partnership that in recent years has brought several international exhibition projects to Malpensa, confirming the airport as a space where travel is permanently intertwined with culture.

World Water Day Photo Contest: water told by the lenses of the whole world
The summer program is completed with the exhibition dedicated to the World Water Day Photo Contest, the competition promoted by the Lions Club on the occasion of World Water Day. Set up at the PhotoSquare, in the atrium between the Sheraton and the train station, it offers a selection of award-winning shots, which with different styles and sensibilities focus on the universal value of water and the urgency of its protection.
