Dubai Airport improves accessibility for the hard of hearing
Dubai Airports, the operator of Dubai Airport (DXB), has completed the installation of more than 520 Hearing Loop systems across the airport. This technology improves accessibility for Travellers with hearing impairments, including those using hearing aids or cochlear implants.
The facilities have been integrated at key points throughout the airport, including check-in counters, immigration counters, boarding gates and information desks in DXB's three terminals. The system allows users to connect automatically by activating the "T" (telecoil) setting on their device, without the need for pairing or additional equipment.
In line with Dubai's Universal Design Code, which mandates inclusive access to public spaces and transport infrastructure, the installation was completed with minimal impact on airport operations. Frontline staff have also received specific training.
With more than 1.5 billion people worldwide suffering from some form of hearing loss , and with the number expected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050, according to the World Health Organization, accessible communication systems are becoming essential in global transportation hubs.
The implementation of the Hearing Loops systems is part of a long-term accessibility strategy, aimed at improving accessibility at Dubai Airport (DXB) through infrastructure enhancements and employee training. Practical and passenger-centric solutions, so that they feel welcomed and understood at every stage of their journey at the airport.
