Bilbao Airport boosts radio navigation systems
ENAIRE, the Spanish National Air Navigation Authority, has completed the upgrade of the DVOR-DME system at Bilbao Airport, renewing a technology that has reached the end of its operational cycle. The intervention is part of the broader Technological Modernization Plan aimed at ensuring the efficiency and safety of air operations in Spain.
The new facility, operational, has been relocated to a strategic point within the airport perimeter to avoid possible obstacles on runway 10-28. The transition to the new system has taken place without any disruption to services or impact on flight operations.
DVOR-DME is a key element of instrument air navigation: it allows pilots to accurately determine their position and direction for approach at the airport, improving landing, take-off and approach procedures.
With this update, Bilbao Airport is equipped with state-of-the-art radioelectric technologies, confirming itself as a strategic hub for air accessibility in northern Spain.
