Bergamo strengthens airport logistics

In the heart of the Logistics Park of  Milan Bergamo Airport, the new customs spaces of the Bergamo Customs Office have been inaugurated. The project, the result of the synergy between SACBO and the Customs and Monopolies Agency, represents a strategic turning point for the logistics system of the territory.

For the first time in Italy, road and air customs are integrated into a single physical location, allowing coordinated management of goods arriving both by road and by air. This innovative configuration improves the fluidity of operations, shortens customs clearance times and simplifies controls, bringing tangible benefits to the entire commercial ecosystem of the province.

The intervention involved a long administrative and management work, developed over the course of more than 15 years, with the aim of providing a modern and functional service. While the infrastructure did not require major technical complexities, coordination between bodies, companies and institutions was crucial to make this hub operational.

The province of Bergamo, historically strong in manufacturing exports, is now seeing its ability to connect to global markets strengthened. The Customs Office has recorded significant numbers in the last year: about 250,000 customs declarations, 2 billion euros of goods treated and over 9,000 checks carried out. Data that highlight how strategic it was to create a structure that met the needs of speed, safety and efficiency.

This new customs centre is part of a larger project that has also seen SACBO and ADM collaborate on other initiatives, such as the opening of gates dedicated to express logistics and the development of spaces for general aviation. Furthermore, the transfer of the management of the customs offices to a renovated municipal building in the center of Bergamo is expected shortly, a choice that will allow management savings and better usability of services by users.

The new customs structure, integrated with the local economic and logistical fabric, strengthens the role of Milan Bergamo Airport as an international hub and strategic hub for trade. A replicable model, which combines institutional vision, operational efficiency and value for the territory.
