Wizz Air strengthens its presence at Milan Bergamo Airport

For the 2025-26 Winter Season, the airline offers 15 routes in 6 countries and launches five new destinations: Chisinau, Sibiu, Suceava, Varna and Warsaw (Modlin)

Wizz Air, chosen by over 17 million Italians in 2025, further consolidates its bond with SACBO, the management company of Milan Bergamo Airport, presenting the new Winter Season 2025. A commitment that is reflected in the numbers: between January and November, the company operated over 7,000 flights, carrying more than 1.4 million passengers and serving 14 routes with a completion rate of 99.8% and an increase in punctuality of 8%.

The strengthening of the offer for the winter season translates into five new routes, which open direct connections to Chisinau (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, already operational from 26 October 2025), Sibiu (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 6 January 2026), Suceava (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, from 15 December 2025), Varna (Tuesday and Saturday, from 16 September 2025) and Warsaw (every day from 2 December 2025, Modlin Airport). Sibiu, Suceava and Varna will be operated exclusively by Wizz Air at BGY, offering passengers new travel opportunities to destinations in Eastern and Central Europe, which are still little explored but experiencing strong tourist growth.

The bond between Wizz Air and Milan Bergamo Airport has lasted for over twenty years: the first flight dates back to 2004, on the Bergamo - Katowice route. Since then, the company has carried over 17 million passengers from the Lombardy airport and offered 19.2 million seats, becoming Milan Bergamo Airport's second carrier by market share. A result that testifies to the solidity of the partnership with SACBO and the strategic importance of the airport within the group's Italian network.

The strategic importance of Milan Bergamo Airport for Wizz Air is also confirmed by the operating results for 2025: over 6,500 flights and more than 1.3 million passengers transported in the first ten months of the year, with punctuality and reliability at the highest levels.

Giacomo Cattaneo, aviation commercial director of SACBO, during today's presentation at BGY underlined: "we are happy to record a winter season full of news for Wizz Air at Milan Bergamo Airport. The airline's decision to increase the number of destinations offered to our passengers reflects the desire to consolidate its historic presence at the airport, strengthening the network and articulating it to allow those residing in important European regions to have privileged access to Lombardy and the north-east. At the same time, further travel opportunities and relationships to Central and Eastern Europe are opening up for those who fall within the catchment area of our airport. We are pleased that Wizz Air recognizes Milan Bergamo's operational efficiency and strengths in terms of ground services, which the airline needs to be increasingly appreciated".

Milan Bergamo Airport continues to grow, confirming its position as Italy's third largest airport by passenger traffic (17,353,573 in 2024) by investing in an increasingly comfortable and efficient infrastructure with:

  • 65 check-in counters, 27 gates, 52 shops and 2 VIP lounges;
  • expansion of the check-in area into an additional 3,800 square meters, 64 check-in counters and a large self-drop area;
  • new security control area (opening 26 November 2025): 7,400 square meters, 14 lines (all with new technology), fast-track lane, family lane;
  • new airport service center (opening Winter 2026): 4-star Hilton Garden Inn hotel, bars and restaurants, fitness center, meeting rooms;
  • train connection (opening Winter 2026): from the BGY Terminal to Bergamo (10'), Milan (45' express, 60' ordinary), Monza (65') and Lecco (70').

Overall, Wizz Air's Winter Season 2025 will cover the entire Italian territory, with operations on 27 Italian airports, 41 new routes (including 23 exclusive) and a growth of 14% compared to the previous season. This expansion is part of Wizz Air's Customer First Compass strategic plan, which envisages €14 billion of investment over the next three years to improve the passenger experience, expand the international network and introduce increasingly innovative services. A commitment that reaffirms the centrality of the Italian market and, in particular, of Milan Bergamo airport in Wizz Air's European growth path.

"Italy is our first market in terms of number of passengers transported and we are proud to be among the three main airlines in the country", specifies Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air. "The Winter Season 2025 represents a further investment in eastern Lombardy and Milan Bergamo Airport, one of our most strategic hubs in Northern Italy. We confirm our reliability and the trust of Lombard travellers. The new routes allow us to strengthen our mission: to make air travel increasingly accessible and affordable".
