Wizz Air achieves SeMS certification
Thanks to its dedication to global security standards and operational excellence, Wizz Air has achieved Level II certification – the highest level achievable for initial certification – under the IATA Security Management System (SeMS) programme.
This milestone makes Wizz Air the first low-cost airline and the second airline in Europe to achieve this level of recognition.
The certification covers Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta, reflecting the airline's proactive approach to aviation safety and its alignment with international best practices. The Wizz Air Group Security and Resilience team, with its leadership, experience and cross-functional coordination, has played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.
The SeMS program, developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), promotes a risk-based, performance-oriented safety culture throughout the aviation industry.
The company's team continues to build on this strong foundation to further strengthen security management across the Wizz network. Certification for the Wizz Air Group's UK operations is planned for the next phase of the programme, planned for next year.
"SeMS is essential to shift global aviation safety from a compliance-based approach to one that proactively identifies and mitigates risks while driving continuous improvement. Achieving this requires the full support of the air transport industry. Wizz Air is leading the way, not only as the first low-cost airline to achieve this certification, but through its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety", said Frederic Leger, Senior Vice President, Products & Services at IATA.
