easyJet and Unicef winter fundraiser
The "Every Child Can Fly" campaign advocates for the universal right to education for every child by 2030. From 7 December donations collected on board
easyJet is renewing its commitment to solidarity by partnering with UNICEF to launch a new winter fundraiser on board, as part of the 'Every Child Can Fly' campaign. The initiative aims to support UNICEF's global work in addressing the learning crisis and achieve the ambitious goal of ensuring access to primary and lower secondary education for all children by 2030.
From 7 December, nearly nine million passengers flying with easyJet over the winter will have the opportunity to participate in this important cause through donations collected by cabin crew on board more than 72,000 flights in 32 countries. This six-week campaign represents a significant milestone: it is the 50th charity initiative organized in partnership with UNICEF since the inception of their partnership in 2012.
Thanks to the generosity of passengers and the commitment of the crew, easyJet has already raised more than £17 million for UNICEF over the past 11 years. These funds have been used to protect millions of children from diseases, to ensure their safety in emergency situations and to promote access to quality education.
The "Every Child Can Fly" campaign, launched earlier this year, aims to provide educational opportunities for 114 million children worldwide and provide digital education for nearly 150 million young people by 2025. This is a response to the global learning crisis, highlighted by the fact that seven out of ten children aged 10 are unable to read a simple text or perform basic mathematical operations.
Despite significant progress in improving access to inclusive and quality education, there is still a long way to go to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) on education: 1.4 million children need to be enrolled in early childhood education each year and 44 million teachers trained. The campaign brings with it touching stories, such as that of Khadija, an Afghan girl who is able to attend school thanks to a community class set up by UNICEF in her village in Daikundi. Khadija, demonstrating the transformative power of education, said: "If my classmates don't understand the lesson, I will help them. I will read the lessons for them one more time."
