To film and TV series locations with Qatar Airways

The most fascinating film and television destinations, all reachable thanks to its extensive global network of over 170 destinations

With the release of the long-awaited third season of The White Lotus, set in Thailand, a new wave of travelers is expected to Phuket, Bangkok and Koh Samui, eager to explore the filming locations of the series. This phenomenon is not new: after the success of the second season in 2022, Taormina has seen a 300% increase in bookings for its film locations.

Film tourism, known as set-cation, is an ever-growing trend. From the landscapes of New Zealand, made famous by The Lord of the Rings, to the deserts of Wadi Rum in Jordan, where Dune was filmed, more and more travelers are choosing their destinations inspired by movies and TV series. According to a recent study, 64% of travelers said they planned a trip after seeing a destination in a movie or series.

To help fans of the silver screen enjoy these experiences, Qatar Airways has compiled a list of some of the most fascinating film and television destinations, all accessible thanks to its extensive global network of over 170 destinations.

Destinations inspired by movies and TV shows

► The White Lotus - Thailand

The third season of the series is set between Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok, with the luxurious Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui taking the place of the fictional The White Lotus Koh Samui.
✈ How to get there: Qatar Airways flights to Bangkok with four daily connections and connections to Koh Samui.

► Gladiator 2 - Malta

The highly anticipated sequel was filmed at Fort Ricasoli, Kalkara, transformed into the Roman Colosseum for the film. Fort Delimara and Fort Manoel were also used for some scenes.
✈ How to get there: From July 2025, Qatar Airways will return to fly to Malta with four weekly flights from Doha.

► Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Australia

Filmed in several Australian locations, including Terrey Hills (Sydney) and the town of Broken Hill, already the protagonist of the Mad Max saga. Here there is also a museum dedicated to the film.
✈ How to get there: Qatar Airways is offering two daily flights to Sydney from June 2025.

► Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre - Doha, Qatar

Guy Ritchie's 2023 blockbuster immortalized Doha with spectacular footage at the Museum of Islamic Art, along the Corniche and in the West Bay district.
✈ How to get there: Doha-based Qatar Airways offers flights from €753 from Milan, Rome and Venice.

► Dune - Wadi Rum, Jordan

The Wadi Rum desert hosted the filming of the blockbuster film starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. This unique landscape has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
✈ How to get there: Qatar Airways offers up to three daily flights to Amman, from which you can drive to Wadi Rum.

► Squid Game - South Korea

The key scenes of the series were shot between Daejeon and Seoul, with iconic settings such as Ssangmun-dong and Baegun Market.
✈ How to get there: Qatar Airways flies to Seoul eight times a week from Doha, with fares starting at €802 from Milan.

► Spirited Away - Japan

The legendary Dogo Onsen, in Matsuyama, is believed to be the inspiration for the magical hot spring bath in Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece.
✈ How to get there: Qatar Airways flights to Tokyo (Haneda) and Osaka Kansai, with connections to Matsuyama.

► Eat, Pray, Love - Bali, Italy and India

From the heart of Italy, between Rome and Naples, to the Indian temples and green rice paddies of Ubud, Bali, fans of the film can retrace the footsteps of Julia Roberts.
✈ How to get there: Bali (three daily flights via Doha, with fares from €897 from Milan); Italy (up to three daily flights to Rome); India (two daily flights to Delhi).
