American Airlines focuses on technology
American Airlines is introducing a series of technological innovations designed to improve the passenger experience for summer 2025, simplifying every step of the journey, from ticket purchase to arrival at destination. The new solutions include an AI-based virtual assistant, a revamped mobile app, next-generation digital kiosks and intelligent systems for managing connected flights.
A new app to travel better
Completely redesigned, the official American Airlines app is now more intuitive and faster, with features designed to minimize stress before and during your trip. The app allows you to receive real-time updates on flight status, thanks to the Live Activities feature available for iOS devices, and also supports integrated check-in for flights operated by oneworld alliance partners. Thanks to the new software infrastructure, the company will be able to introduce new features more quickly.
Self-service kiosks in major hubs
To make the boarding process even more efficient, American Airlines has installed new digital kiosks at major U.S. airports, including Dallas/Fort Worth, Charlotte, Miami, New York JFK, Los Angeles and Chicago O'Hare. Passengers can complete check-in and print baggage tags in less than two minutes. If you buy your checked baggage online, you can complete the process even faster.
Artificial intelligence to manage the unexpected
The company is testing a conversational assistant based on GenAI technology, capable of supporting passengers during unforeseen situations such as delays or cancellations, suggesting alternative and personalized solutions. In addition to this, the company uses predictive systems to monitor risky connections in real time. In cases where connecting flights could be compromised, the system can trigger a strategic delay to ensure passengers have enough time to reach the next aircraft. The program is already operational in the Dallas/Fort Worth and Charlotte hubs, with upcoming extensions planned.
Smart re-protection and automated assistance
In the event of operational disruption, the American Airlines app automatically shows the passenger all available options for rerouting. When needed, the system proactively includes hotel vouchers, meals, or travel credits, reducing the wait and the burden on customer service.
Travel without documents with facial recognition
Finally, thanks to the collaboration with government and airport agencies, American Airlines is expanding the Touchless ID system. AAdvantage loyalty customers can access security checkpoints and boarding gates using facial recognition only, without the need to show paper or digital documents.
American Airlines offers an increasingly connected, efficient and customer-oriented flight experience. The technological innovations introduced represent an important step towards smarter air mobility, especially in view of the busy summer tourist season.
