Swiss says goodbye to duty-free on board
Swiss is preparing to say goodbye to in-flight duty-free. The Swiss airline will stop duty-free sales on board its flights at the end of September 2026, thus responding to the change in passenger shopping habits.
In recent years, Swiss International Air Lines has carefully analyzed the trend of sales on board, noting a progressive reduction in purchases made during the flight. More and more Travellers prefer to find out in advance, compare prices online and complete purchases before they even arrive at the airport. Spontaneous purchase from the duty-free trolley has therefore become less and less frequent.
The current on-board catalog will remain valid until September 30, 2026. The offer includes, among other products, watches, jewelry, perfumes, cosmetics, accessories and gifts. From June, Swiss will offer a selection of items from the remaining duty free assortment at reduced prices, with discounts from 25%, while stocks last.
The decision will not affect other retail services available on Swiss flights. In particular, "Swiss Saveurs", thefood & beverage concept dedicated to Economy Class passengers, will remain unchanged.
Part of the offer will be transferred online via the Miles & More Worldshop, where customers can continue to purchase selected products from the current duty-free catalogue. In addition to items with Swiss designs, such as mugs, trolleys and model aircraft, the digital channel will also offer exclusive pieces for aviation enthusiasts.
These include items from the "Swiss Recraft Collection", a line of handcrafted furnishings and accessories made from parts from decommissioned Swiss aircraft. These are unique pieces, available exclusively through the Worldshop.
With this choice, Swiss adapts its sales model to the new ways of purchasing passengers, focusing on a more digital experience, accessible before the trip and with a wider selection than the traditional duty free on board.
