New Airport Service Center
A strategic investment to strengthen hospitality, services and connections 

As part of the development plan of Milan Bergamo Airport, the new Airport Service Centre is taking shape, an ambitious project promoted by SACBO to expand and enhance the airport's infrastructure. The center will be built next to the P3 car park, in an area of 3,600 square meters in the municipality of Bergamo, and will be developed on six floors, for a total of 10,000 square meters in total.

The new hub will house executive offices, conference spaces, and a 180-room Hilton Garden Inn Bergamo Airport branded accommodation facility, managed by HNH Hospitality. It will be a modern and integrated center, designed to meet the operational, logistical and reception needs in a constantly evolving airport context.

Financed with an investment of about 30 million euros, also supported by the European funds of the Next Generation EU program under the PNRR, the project aims to create synergies with the future direct rail connection that will make the airport even more accessible.

 

According to Giovanni Sanga, President of SACBO, the new Service Center represents a fundamental step towards sustainable and intermodal mobility, improving not only the operational efficiency of the airport, but also the overall experience for travelers and operators in the sector.

BGY Awards 2024
Awarded the food & retail excellence of Milan Bergamo Airport

Milan Bergamo Airport celebrated excellence through the BGY Awards, rewarding the best operators in the food and retail sectors active within the terminal. A long-awaited event, which enhances the realities capable of offering a quality service to passengers every day, helping to make the airport experience even more enjoyable.

The selection of the winners was carried out by a third-party company specializing in mystery clients, which rigorously analyzed a series of key parameters related to quality of service, hospitality, innovation and customer care.

For the Food category, first place went to Eataly, appreciated for the high quality of the gastronomic offer and for the authentically Italian experience offered to travelers. Panino Giusto won second place thanks to a balanced proposal between tradition and contemporaneity, while the third step of the podium was awarded to McDonald's, recognized for efficiency and attention to service.

In the Retail category, the gold medal was awarded to Nau!, an optical brand that has been able to stand out for innovation and customer experience. This was followed by Taste & Buy, a reference point for Made in Italy food and wine, and KIKO, awarded for the quality of its products and the care of its point of sale.

 

The BGY Awards are thus confirmed as an important moment of enhancement of the airport's commercial partners, underlining the shared commitment to ensuring high standards and an increasingly engaging and quality travel experience.

 


 

Airport Day 2025
SACBO celebrates the strategic role of Italian airports with a dedicated conference
innovation, sustainability and territorial development

On the occasion of Airport Day, the national event that turns the spotlight on the importance of airports for the economic growth and sustainability of the country, SACBO promoted the meeting "Bergamo and its airport: projects to fly into the future", confirming the airport's commitment to the process of innovation and development of the territory.

During the conference, SACBO President Giovanni Sanga highlighted how Milan Bergamo Airport is constantly evolving, with the aim of improving the travel experience and reducing environmental impact. 

 

Among the most important projects scheduled for 2025 are the expansion of the departures area, in view of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and the advancement of the direct rail connection, which will mark an important step towards increasingly integrated and multimodal mobility.

 

 

Another milestone announced is to make Bergamo the first "bike friendly" airport in Europe, confirming a vision oriented towards sustainability and accessibility.

"We are aware of the importance of our role in ensuring mobility and contributing to the socio-economic development of the territory," said Sanga.

The event was also attended by the mayor of Bergamo, Elena Carnevali, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, testifying to the strategic importance of the Bergamo airport in the national mobility system.

 


 

BGY Business Workshop 2025
Meetings between travel professionals to build synergies and design new growth routes

The BGY Business Workshop took place at the logistics park of Milan Bergamo Airport, an event that brought together airlines, travel managers, tour operators and tourism boards for a day entirely dedicated to networking and building new opportunities for collaboration.

The meeting represented a concrete opportunity to strengthen the ties between the players in the sector and to give life to strategic projects capable of connecting territories, experiences and people, enhancing the increasingly central role of the Bergamo airport in the panorama of international air transport.

During the workshop, SACBO presented the potential of Bergamo airport, a rapidly expanding reality, with a constantly growing network of connections and a vision oriented towards innovation, sustainability and efficiency of the services offered.

SACBO at the service of accessibility
With over 88,000 assists in 2024, the Bergamo airport
stands out a national level for its quality, humanity and inclusiveness.

SACBO, the management company of Milan Bergamo Airport, has received the prestigious ANMIC award for the assistance service offered to passengers with reduced mobility (PRM). The award was presented by the president of ANMIC, Giovanni Manzoni, to the president of SACBO, Giovanni Sanga, as a concrete sign of appreciation for the attention and quality of services guaranteed to those traveling with special needs.

During 2024, the airport carried out 88,480 PRM assistance, an increase of 50% compared to previous years. A result that confirms SACBO's constant commitment to making the airport experience increasingly accessible, efficient and human.

Alongside the operational activities, SACBO has launched an awareness campaign with ANMIC aimed at promoting compliance with current regulations on disability and reduced mobility, fundamental elements to ensure punctual, professional assistance that respects the dignity of each passenger.

This award represents not only an important milestone for SACBO, but also a further step towards a culture of inclusion that places accessibility at the heart of the journey.

 


 

"Bike Friendly GOLD"

Milan Bergamo Airport and the management company SACBO have received the highest "Bike Friendly" award at the GOLD level from FIAB  (Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation), for their concrete commitment to promoting sustainable mobility.

The award ceremony took place at SACBO's management offices, in the presence of President Giovanni Sanga, General Manager Amelia Corti, FIAB Vice President Valeria Lorenzelli and Christophe Sanchez, CEO of Visit Bergamo.

This important milestone rewards a series of virtuous policies, including the creation of the "Bike Room" dedicated to cyclists in transit and the launch of the project for the construction of a cycle and pedestrian path that will connect the airport with the main Lombard and national cycle paths.

The "Bike Friendly GOLD" award represents a further step towards multimodal, accessible and environmentally friendly mobility, in line with the challenges of urban and tourist sustainability.

"Living in Health"
Educating about prevention to improve the quality of life: the message signed by BGY and the Veronesi Foundation

The "Living in Health" project, launched by BGY in collaboration with the Veronesi Foundation, was inaugurated with great participation, with the aim of promoting the culture of prevention and raising awareness among employees on issues related to psychophysical well-being and correct lifestyles. The first seminar, held at the airport Auditorium and remotely connected via Teams, was dedicated to Prevention for Women. The meeting, led by an expert from the Veronesi Foundation, offered fundamental information content on the prevention of female oncological diseases, actively involving staff both in person and remotely. The initiative marks the beginning of an ongoing training and information path, which in the coming months will address different issues, always related to health promotion and the dissemination of good daily practices. With "Living in Health", BGY confirms its commitment to people's well-being, investing in projects of social value that place health at the center of working life and personal growth.

 


 
the new taxiway B
Completed the extension of the taxiway: 
less waiting time, fewer emissions and more punctuality for flights

With an extension of about 1.6 kilometers in the northern area of the airport grounds, the new taxiway B represents one of the most recent and significant infrastructural interventions of Milan Bergamo Airport. The project, carried out by SACBO in collaboration with ENAV, required a total investment of 35 million euros, with the aim of optimising taxiing operations and improving the management of aircraft movements on the ground.

The benefits are tangible: thanks to the new configuration, an estimated annual saving of 270 hours of taxiing time for aircraft and a reduction of more than 1,000 tons of CO₂ are expected, contributing significantly to the airport's environmental strategy. Flight punctuality also improved, thanks to smoother take-off and landing.

From a technological point of view, Taxiway B stands out for the adoption of an LED lighting system and a low-voltage electrical system (a cutting-edge solution in the Italian airport landscape) that guarantees energy savings of 80% compared to traditional systems.

This new infrastructure is part of a broader plan of enhancement and sustainability carried out by SACBO, in line with the vision of an increasingly efficient, modern and environmentally friendly airport.

 

 

SIMULATOR FOR DRIVING AIRSIDE VEHICLES
The new digital tool for training was presented in a technical workshop, 
as part of strategies to increase operational safety

 

Milan Bergamo Airport confirms its position as a pioneer in the field of technology and training: it is in fact the first airport in Italy to be equipped with a simulator for driving road service vehicles in operational areas. A significant step towards enhancing airside safety and adopting innovative solutions for staff training.

The new simulator was presented during the technical workshop "Advanced technologies and new regulations to improve safety in airport operating areas", organized by BGY in collaboration with TXT Group and IFSC, and with the participation of experts from ENAC and EASA.

The aim of the meeting was to share the new directives and the most effective technological tools to increase safety in airport operating areas, one of the central themes in the management of modern airports.

 

The works were opened by the speeches of Amelia Corti, General Manager of SACBO, and Roberta Carli, Territorial Director of ENAC Bergamo. The coordination of the workshop was entrusted to Lorenzo Mezzadri, President of the IFSC, while among the most awaited contributions in the field of regulation were those of Adina Szonyi on behalf of EASA and Giuseppe Ignoti of the National Civil Aviation Authority.

An investment of 800 thousand euros has restored efficiency, safety 
and future to general aviation on the grounds of Milan Bergamo Airport

The Aeroclub Bergamo has seen an important step taken towards the modernization of its infrastructures thanks to the complete redevelopment of the runway, located within the grounds of Milan Bergamo Airport. A significant intervention, carried out with an investment of about 800 thousand euros borne by SACBO, which led to the remaking and repaving of the entire surface, improving its operational and safety characteristics.

The intervention had a strategic value not only for the strengthening of general and sports aviation, but also for its positive impact on the territory, consolidating the synergy between the large international airport and local aeronautical realities.
