Ferrari Luce opens a new era

The new electric car from the Prancing Horse debuts in Rome with 1050 hp, four doors, five seats, over 530 km of autonomy and design by LoveFrom

Ferrari has unveiled Ferrari Luce, a new high-performance electric car that inaugurates an unprecedented chapter in the history of the Prancing Horse. Unveiled in Rome in the setting of the Vela di Calatrava - Città dello Sport, the new Ferrari was created to combine performance, comfort, design and technological innovation in a formula designed for customers looking for exclusivity, driving excitement and everyday usability.

The choice of Rome is not accidental. On 25 May 1947, on the Terme di Caracalla circuit, the Ferrari 125 S achieved the Prancing Horse's first official victory with Franco Cortese. Ferrari has ideally returned to the capital 79 years later to present a project that looks to the future without interrupting the link with its sporting history.

Ferrari Luce is the result of the multi-energy strategy announced by Maranello at Capital Markets Day 2022. Electrification is not proposed as a replacement for existing engines, but as a new design possibility to expand architecture, performance, efficiency, design and driving experience. The name Light recalls direction, clarity and the future. The car was not simply born as "the electric Ferrari", but as a completely new Ferrari, designed to offer a recognizable, engaging experience consistent with the brand's DNA.

As per tradition, Ferrari has developed the main components of the car in-house, including electric motors and battery pack. The project has over 60 new patents, confirming the level of technical research achieved in Maranello. The Ferrari Forever philosophy will also be extended to electrical components and batteries, with the aim of guaranteeing assistance, value and continuity over time. The design of Ferrari Luce was entrusted to LoveFrom, the creative collective led by Jony Ive and Marc Newson. The collaboration with a pencil outside the Ferrari Design Studio directed by Flavio Manzoni has made it possible to introduce a new, interdisciplinary language that is consistent with the idea of a new Ferrari.

The electric architecture has made it possible to rethink proportions and habitability. Ferrari Luce introduces a four-door, five-seat configuration, a first for the Prancing Horse. The passenger compartment is conceived as a pure, rational and sophisticated volume, where exterior, interior and interface share the same design language. One of the most distinctive elements is the glass house, large and continuous, designed as a fluid shape that extends below the beltline to the ends of the car. The front and rear light clusters are integrated into the primary surfaces and, when the lights are off, seem to disappear to preserve the purity of the shapes. The round taillights recall the formal clarity of iconic models such as the 360 Modena and 458 Italia.

Ferrari Luce also introduces the largest diameter rims ever adopted on a Ferrari road car: 23 inches at the front and 24 inches at the rear. A technical and aesthetic choice that reinforces the car's scenic presence and underlines its exclusive character. The interior is designed to offer a refined and contemporary experience. Precision physical controls, mechanical selectors and multifunction digital displays developed with Samsung Display coexist in an essential and technological environment. Materials include recycled anodized aluminum, Corning Gorilla glass, and high-quality leather. The acoustic experience is an integral part of luxury on board. The audio system integrates 21 speakers, 3000W 24-channel amplification and Ferrari Audio Signature, with dedicated presets, individual listening optimization and dynamic compensations.

From a technical point of view, Ferrari Luce was born on a dedicated platform and uses solutions derived from Ferrari's experience in competitions. The curb weight is 2260 kg, while the performance places the car at the top of the category: 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, top speed over 310 km/h and total power of 1050 hp. The declared range is more than 530 km. The car is powered by four electric motors, one per wheel, and is equipped with a high-capacity 122 kWh battery. The system operates on 800 V architecture and supports fast charging up to 350 kW.

Driving dynamics take advantage of independent control of the four wheels. Each wheel has dedicated actuators for traction and regeneration, steering angle and vertical movement. This allows for extremely precise management of torque, trim and dynamic response in real time. Ferrari Luce introduces the first electric all-wheel drive on a Ferrari. Torque vectoring, independent rear-axle steering, F80-derived active suspension and the new Side Slip Control X work together to deliver an agile, natural and readable ride, even in a high-powered electric car.

One of the most interesting aspects concerns the sound. Ferrari has chosen an authentic, not artificial approach: a precision accelerometer located in the axle detects vibrations and mechanical textures generated by the rotating parts, then filtered and emphasized only when functional to driving. The result is a sound consistent with the car's mechanics, adjustable through the e-Manettino and paddles on the steering wheel. Acoustic comfort has been developed with advanced work on vibration and noise. Thanks to the first elasticated subframe in Maranello's history, active suspension and careful management of masses and soundproofing, Ferrari Luce is presented as the most comfortable Ferrari ever.

Aerodynamics is also a central element of the project. Ferrari Luce achieves the lowest drag coefficient ever achieved by a Maranello road car, while offering superior roominess. Active aerodynamic grilles, a first for Ferrari, regulate airflow to balance cooling and efficiency. Energy management integrates intelligent warm-up software, fast charge, battery and passenger compartment preconditioning, even remotely. The battery pack is designed, validated and built in Maranello and becomes a structural part of the car, contributing to rigidity, efficiency and mass distribution.

The frame combines hollow castings, extrusions and aluminum, while the body uses extrusions and aluminum sheets. The absence of the central tunnel increases internal usability, while the integration of the battery under the floor and under the rear seats allows for the optimization of space and center of gravity. Ferrari has also used recycled aluminium of secondary alloy, reducing CO₂e emissions during production by around 70% of the total car.

Ferrari Luce is not just a new electric supercar. It is a Ferrari designed to redefine the concept of a high-performance grand tourer: more spacious, quieter, more technological and more versatile, but still built around the thrill of driving. With four doors, five seats, 1050 hp and over 530 km of range, the Prancing Horse enters new territory, where comfort, performance and electrification become part of the same experience.
