The S.T.A.R.S. program officially begins at EBACE24
The “Standards & Training for Aviation Responsibility and Sustainability” (S.T.A.R.S.) program is the latest in a long list of innovative and impactful steps taken by business aviation in an effort to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050
The co-producer of EBACE2024, the European Business Aviation Association, will officially launch at the premier European event on business aviation, the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition of 2024, its proprietary program Standards & Training for Aviation Responsibility and Sustainability (S.T.A.R.S.). This program provides a holistic framework for organizations to develop and seamlessly integrate environmental and social strategies.
Aligned with both the Business Aviation Commitment on Climate Change (BACCC) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, S.T.A.R.S. propels business aviation companies towards a brighter and more responsible future. The program is the latest in a series of innovative and impactful steps taken by the business aviation sector in its effort to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
S.T.A.R.S. has its roots in EBACE, where the concept was first introduced at the 2019 convention to gauge the sector's receptiveness to the initiative. The program was conceived by a group of young business aviation professionals from European companies who launched the idea at the One Young World Summit, which gathers individuals aged 18 to 30 from over 190 countries to discuss how to tackle pressing social challenges.
This year's launch builds on the work carried out at EBACE2022, where participants had outlined the S.T.A.R.S. program:
► Level 1: Self-measurement and drafting of a policy for continuous progress towards environmental and social sustainability goals. Policies should address, for example, the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, waste and water usage, non-discrimination, inclusivity, a new code of conduct, and data privacy and security.
► Levels 2 and 3: Include implementation phases, designed to be compliant with global international standards.
S.T.A.R.S. serves as a complement to the award-winning sustainable flight department accreditation program of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA). Gautier will moderate an EBACE roundtable titled "S.T.A.R.S. - Elevating Business Aviation to New Sustainability Heights," on the opening day of the fair, Tuesday, May 28, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM CET.
EBACE will take place 28-30 May in Geneva, Switzerland at the Palexpo and Geneva International Airport. EBACE is co-hosted by the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).
