Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH operates the airports Schönefeld and Tegel in Berlin. In 2012, the two airports handled around 25.3 million passengers, making Berlin the third-largest airport location in Germany. In order to create the capacities required for the future, the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt is currently being built in Schönefeld. All air traffic in Germany's capital region will be concentrated in the south-east of Berlin. When Berlin Brandenburg Airport goes into operation, Schönefeld Airport will close  and all air traffic in Germany’s capital region will be concentrated in the south-east of Berlin.

Transportation to/from the airport
Train
The terminal is just a five-minute walk from the railway station via a covered walkway. S-Bahn trains run every 10 minutes on the eastbound ring via Ostkreuz to Pankow and the southbound ring to the long-distance railway station in Südkreuz. Schönefeld Airport is just a 30-minute ride from Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). The regional trains run three times per hour. Another regional train connection runs every hour between the airport and Brandenburg's capital Potsdam.
 
Bus
Several bus services run to the airport from/to Berlin. Some buses stop at Berlin Schönefeld Airport train station, right outside the terminal.

Car
Berlin Schönefeld Airport is very easy to reach by car using autobahn A113 and exiting at junction “Schönefeld Süd”. When coming from central Berlin, you can take the A100 city autobahn in order to then join the A113. Furthermore, the A10 “Berliner Ring” autobahn is connected to the A113.  From Potsdam, you can travel to Schönefeld on the B96a federal highway.
 
Taxi
The taxi ranks can be found outside the Terminal A, available at each destination. 
 
Car hire
The car rental centre is located directly in front of the main Terminal A. The main car rental companies present at the airport are: Avis, Hertz, Europcar, National Car Rental/Alamo, Terstappen, Reisemobilvermietung CC-Mobile,  and Sixt.
