Ita Airways reduces food waste for environmental sustainability
Airline launches Meal Donation and excess food on board flights is returned to communities in need
Today, on the occasion of the National Day for the Prevention of Food Waste, ITA Airways launches Meal Donation, a social responsibility project developed in collaboration with Banco Alimentare del Lazio ODV, Gate Gourmet Italia and Servizi Aeroportuali Srl. This initiative, aimed at combating food waste, is fully in line with Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 of the 2030 Agenda, which promotes the reduction of food loss and waste.
Thanks to Meal Donation, excess food on board ITA Airways flights, such as kosher meals, snacks and candies from survival kits for long-haul flights, are redistributed to local communities in need through the Banco Alimentare del Lazio ODV. In this way, value is restored to food, preventing waste and supporting people in need.
Launched in December 2023, the project has already led to the donation of a significant amount of surplus food and will continue to grow thanks to the latest agreements signed between the partners. With Meal Donation, Ita Airways confirms its commitment to social solidarity and environmental sustainability, strengthening its focus on social and environmental responsibility.
