Permanent sculptures at Hamad International Airport
Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha recently opened Wildlife Wonderscapes, a permanent collection of interactive bronze sculptures by world-renowned artists Gillie and Marc. The initiative, promoted by Qatar Airways Group, underlines the airport's commitment to wildlife conservation and environmental awareness.
The works, adapted specifically for the HIA, integrate distinctive elements of Qatar, including references to native species, offering passengers an artistic experience that blends local culture and global messages of sustainability. Among the most significant installations isThe Wild Table of Love in Doha, a six-ton sculpture depicting endangered animals sitting together around a table, a symbol of coexistence and harmony.
The sculptures are placed in strategic points of the terminal, such as The ORCHARD, the airport's indoor tropical garden, transforming transit spaces into art galleries that invite reflection and interaction. This initiative is part of Qatar Airways Group's wider sustainability programme, which includes projects such as WeQare: Rewild the Planet and collaboration with United for Wildlife to combat illegal trafficking of protected species.
With Wildlife Wonderscapes, Hamad International Airport cements its reputation not only as a world-class transportation hub, but also as a cultural and educational space, offering travelers a unique experience that combines art, nature, and environmental awareness.
