New spaces at the Extra-Schengen Arrivals at Bologna Airport
The Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna has recently inaugurated the new waiting and queuing spaces for the Extra-Schengen Arrivals on the first floor and the reconfiguration of the ground floor of the Passenger Terminal.
The work involved the construction of about 400 additional m² on the first floor, where new waiting areas, toilets and lifts were created, to ensure greater comfort for passengers coming from non-Schengen countries. On the ground floor, eight new passport control boxes and eight ABC Gates (Automatic Border Control) have been installed.
These new spaces host automatic kiosks at the airport dedicated to the EES - Entry/Exit System, the European system for the digital registration of biometric data of citizens of non-EU countries entering or leaving the Schengen area, which will come into force on 12 October according to EU Regulation 2017/2226. The aim is to allow the pre-registration of passports of non-EU passengers, thus speeding up control procedures by the Border Police.
Overall, the intervention involved an investment of about 4 million euros for Bologna Airport (BLQ).
