Naples airport closed in November: flights also transferred to Salerno
Naples Airport will be closed to air traffic for the entire month of November 2026 to allow for a deep redevelopment of the runway and junctions. The works, worth a total of 30 million euros, were planned by GESAC to ensure the safety, reliability and operational continuity of the infrastructure in the long term.
To limit the impact on passengers, the closure was concentrated in a month traditionally characterized by lower traffic volumes. The construction site will be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will involve about 500 people on a total area of 250,000 square meters.
The intervention involves the removal of the existing layers of pavement and the reconstruction of the track structure with new materials, including special high-performance bitumen, designed to increase its strength and durability.
The AVL - Luminous Visual Aids systems, i.e. the lighting and signalling systems of the runway and junctions used by aircraft during take-off, landing and taxiing, even in poor visibility conditions, will also be renewed. Part of the material resulting from the demolitions will be temporarily reused to create noise barriers in the areas affected by the construction site, thus reducing movements and the impact of activities.
Most direct flights move from Naples to Salerno Airport
During the closure of Naples Airport (NAP), part of the traffic will be transferred to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento Airport (QSR), which in November will offer connections to 15 domestic and international destinations served by different airlines.
Italian destinations and airlines
The Italian destinations will be Bergamo with Ryanair, Milan Malpensa with easyJet, Milan Linate with Aeroitalia and ITA Airways, as well as Genoa, Turin and Trieste with Aeroitalia.
International destinations and airlines
On the international front, flights will be available to Amsterdam with Transavia, Barcelona with Vueling, Casablanca with Air Arabia Maroc, Dubai with flydubai, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart with Eurowings, Madrid with Iberia, Paris with Transavia France and Sharm el-Sheikh with Air Cairo and Neos.
Both terminals of the Salerno airport will be used to manage the additional traffic. The Commercial Aviation Terminal will continue to manage most of the connections, while the new General Aviation Terminal will be used for some non-Schengen commercial flights: Casablanca, Dubai and Sharm el-Sheikh, in addition to the route to Madrid, also used by passengers connecting to South America.
Shared buses and taxis between Naples and Salerno
To facilitate travel, during November extraordinary bus services will be activated between Naples Piazza Garibaldi and Salerno Airport and the trips between the airport and the Salerno railway station will be enhanced.
Connections to Potenza, Eboli, Battipaglia and the Amalfi Coast are also confirmed.
On an experimental basis, a collective taxi service will also be available at a predetermined rate between Salerno Airport and Naples Central Station and between the airport and Salerno Central Railway Station.
