MXP Media Lab: the story of the Olympics starts from airports
In view of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, SEA Aeroporti di Milano, manager of the airports of Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and Milan Linate Airport (LIN) and official supporter of the event, launches the MXP Media Lab, a new operational communication hub within Milan Malpensa Airport.
The project is the result of a collaboration with two important universities in the city, IULM University and the University of Milan, and will involve ten selected students from journalism, cinema, communication and new media courses. During the entire Olympic and Paralympic period, the students will work in the heart of the airports, supporting SEA's communication department within a modern media and press office.
The MXP Media Lab will be a real field laboratory: students will contribute to the creation of editorial, photographic and video content, telling the airport operations related to the Games, the arrival and departure of athletes and delegations, the extraordinary flow of passengers and special goods, as well as the atmosphere that will animate Malpensa and Linate during one of the most important international events ever hosted by Italy.
For Michaela Castelli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SEA, "The Olympics represent a highly complex operational challenge for Milan airports: efficiently managing an exceptional increase in passenger traffic, ensuring the highest safety standards and handling special equipment and goods in a short time. In this scenario, the MXP Media Lab will allow us to tell a close look at the daily commitment of our people and the energy that will cross the airports. And to show the world also the emotions of athletes and fans who will arrive in our cities".
From an academic point of view, the MXP Media Lab transforms Milano Cortina 2026 into a real training laboratory, where the theoretical skills acquired in the classroom find direct application in an international context. The students will not be simple observers, but an active part of the communication process, called upon to use contemporary languages to tell a global event through one of its main hubs: the airport.
The Malpensa (MXP) Media Lab will be made up of content creators and photo-video operators who will work directly within the airports of Malpensa and Linate together with the SEA communication department, closely following the daily life of the airports during one of the most important events ever hosted by Italy. The initiative is part of curricular internship courses, confirming SEA's commitment to on-the-job training and collaboration with the university world, with a view to innovation, international openness and enhancement of young talent.
