Milan Bergamo inaugurates the exhibition "Emotions of the Games"
Milan Bergamo Airport enriches the experience of travellers with the photographic exhibition "Emotions of the Games - Culture Through Sport", in the spaces in front of Gate A1 of the Schengen departures terminal.
The initiative is part of the "Itineraries in Lombardy for the Cultural Olympics" project, promoted by the Lombardy Region - Culture Directorate and carried out by FICTS - Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs as part of the Cultural Olympiad Milano Cortina 2026, in collaboration with SACBO.
With this set-up, the Bergamo airport officially enters the atmosphere of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, which between February and March will attract hundreds of athletes, technical teams and thousands of snow and ice sports enthusiasts to Lombardy and nearby Trentino.
The exhibition offers a visual journey through iconic shots, emotions and legendary feats, paying homage to the Lombard and Bergamo champions, authors of unforgettable pages of Olympic and Paralympic sport. An exhibition that celebrates the strength of talent, the determination of the athletes and the beauty of the Games as a cultural as well as sporting experience.
The project, consistent with the Three-Year Program for Culture 2023-2025, is included in the official schedule of the Cultural Olympiad of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation and aims to enhance the Olympic territories, strengthen the legacy of the Games and accompany citizens and institutions in an integrated path of rapprochement between sport, tourism, culture and training.
The inauguration and the testimonies of the protagonists
The opening of the exhibition was attended by: Giovanni Sanga, president of SACBO; Franco Ascani, FICTS president and Member of the 'Culture and Olympic Heritage' Commission of the International Olympic Committee; Marco Riva - president of CONI Lombardy; Marcella Messina - councillor for sport of the Municipality of Bergamo.
Also present were numerous multi-titled athletes: Martina Caironi, Oney Tapia, Ivan Pelizzoli, Mirko Testa, Marino Vigna and Claudia Cretti. Michela Moioli, snowboard cross world champion and Olympic gold medallist in 2018, sent a video message.
Giovanni Sanga, president of SACBO - Milan Bergamo Airport underlined: "The Olympics and Paralympics are not only enclosed in competitive moments, but are a heritage of stories and culture. This exhibition offers photographic images, the so-called snapshots of the deeds that have marked the sporting career of our great champions. Passengers at our airport will be able to enjoy a selection of photos from the Winter and Paralympic Olympic Games as well as the Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Our airport offers the best welcome and we are sure that the new departures terminal, recently inaugurated in the name of technological innovation and comfort, will also be appreciated. 2026 is just around the corner and we are about to experience the great five-ring event, ready to be protagonists too".
Franco Ascani, President of FICTS, added: "Sport is a global movement at the service of humanity. And Olympism is a lifestyle that we want to promote, especially among the younger generations, the values inherent in the symbol of the five circles, which celebrate the indissoluble marriage between sport and culture".
The Olympic Flame of Milano Cortina 2026 will stop in Bergamo on February 2, 2026, transforming the city into a large festive stage. The route will end in the heart of the city center, on the Sentierone, where the lighting of the brazier in Largo Gavazzeni will offer a moment of strong symbolism and collective participation. Shows, cultural initiatives and activities dedicated to visitors will enliven the entire day.
