Wizz Air celebrates five years at Milan Malpensa

Important milestone for one of the company's most important bases in Italy and Europe with over 12.5 million passengers transported since 2020, 39 routes to 23 different countries and 8 aircraft based in 2020.

Wizz Air celebrates the fifth anniversary of its base at Milan Malpensa Airport, a key hub in the Italian and European landscape in terms of passenger volume, number of routes and strategic investments.

Inaugurated in July 2020, Malpensa was Wizz Air's first Italian base and marked the beginning of the company's rapid and widespread expansion throughout the country. In five years of operation, more than 12.5 million passengers have been transported to and from Malpensa, consolidating the role of the Lombard airport as an essential bridge between Italy, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Currently, in the heart of summer 2025, Wizz Air connects Malpensa to 39 destinations in 23 countries, operating a local fleet of eight Airbus A321neos, among the most modern and efficient in the world in terms of environmental sustainability.

To celebrate the important anniversary, the company organized a special event at one of the check-ins of the Milan airport, during which a lucky departing passenger was rewarded with a voucher of 250 euros to be used on any route of the Wizz Air network.

The data for the first half of 2025 confirm robust growth: 10,000 flights operated to and from Malpensa (+32% compared to 2024), 2 million passengers transported and an average load factor of 99.5%. Punctuality also improved sharply, with an increase of 20% compared to the previous year.

Wizz Air's offer for summer 2025 has been further enhanced: increased weekly frequencies on the most popular routes – in particular to destinations in Spain – and extension of the network to the main European capitals, the Mediterranean islands, the Middle East and North Africa.
