Wizz Air's Winter Season at Milan Malpensa

From one of its most important bases, the carrier consolidates its partnership with SEA and launches five new European destinations: Alicante, Brasov, Glasgow, London and Seville

Wizz Air, one of the leading airlines in Italy, and SEA - Aeroporti di Milano today presented the Winter Season 2025, confirming the carrier's strong commitment to the Italian market, with a particular focus on the Lombard capital.

The new winter season marks a significant expansion of Wizz Air's network in Italy, with 41 new routes, of which 23 are operated exclusively, leading to an overall growth of 14% compared to last winter.

At the heart of the strategy remains Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), one of the carrier's most important bases and reference hub for Northern Italy. From here, Wizz Air introduces five new European destinations of great cultural, economic and tourist appeal: Glasgow and London (United Kingdom), Brasov (Romania), Alicante and Seville (Spain).

Of particular importance are the connections to Brasov and Glasgow, operated exclusively by Wizz Air, which make the company the only carrier to offer direct flights from Malpensa to these destinations, expanding travel opportunities for Lombardy passengers.

The new routes have the following frequencies, also ideal for a city break:

  • MXP-Alicante: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • MXP-Brasov: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
  • MXP-Glasgow: Monday and Friday
  • MXP-London (Luton): Daily flights
  • MXP-Seville: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Since the beginning of 2025, the company has already operated over 16,000 flights from Malpensa, an increase of almost 27% compared to the same period in 2024, carrying more than 3.4 million passengers (+32% on 2024). The operating results confirm a completion rate of 99.6%, a load factor of 90% and an improved starting punctuality of 21% compared to the previous year.

Overall, Wizz Air's Winter Season 2025 in Italy will cover 27 Italian airports, strengthening the airline's domestic and international connectivity. In addition to Milan Malpensa, Wizz Air is also consolidating its presence in Catania, Naples, Rome Fiumicino, Pescara and Turin, introducing new routes such as Turin-Budapest, Turin-Sofia, Pescara-Bucharest (Otopeni) and Naples-Timișoara, as well as new connections from Bari to Yerevan and Skopje and from Catania to Gdansk.

For Wizz Air, Italy is the first market in terms of number of passengers transported and is the third airline in the country by market share, operating over 245 routes to 32 countries in Italy. The company continues to invest in Lombardy and in particular in Milan Malpensa, as underlined by Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air, thus consolidating the solidity of the partnership with SEA.

Aldo Schmid, Head of Aviation Business Development at Sea Aeroporti di Milano, specifies that "Wizz Air's growth at Milan Malpensa represents one of the most significant success stories of our airport in recent years. Since the start of operations in 2012 and, in particular, since the opening of the base in 2020, the company has contributed decisively to the development of traffic and the strengthening of Malpensa's network of destinations".

In the winter season that has just begun, Malpensa has 174 destinations in 79 countries, ranking among the top European airports for overall growth in capacity offered compared to the previous winter season (+7.5%) and in particular in first place for the increase in seats offered on long-haul (+15.9%), thus being among the top 10 airports on the continent for overall long-haul offer. In the calendar year 2025, 204 scheduled destinations will be served with direct flights from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP).
