Iberia expands flights between Madrid and Tokyo

A special connection between Europe and Asia during Japan's most iconic period, the cherry blossom (sakura) in March and April

Iberia strengthens its presence in the Japanese market by announcing an additional flight between Madrid and Tokyo in March and April 2026, coinciding with the famous cherry blossom (sakura), one of the most evocative times of the year in Japan.

The new flight will operate from March 4 to April 29, departing Madrid every Wednesday and returning from Tokyo on Thursdays, bringing it to four weekly flights per direction from the three currently operated. This temporary increase will offer over 6,000 additional seats on the Spain-Japan route, responding to the growing demand of European and Asian Travellers.

The route is operated with Airbus A350, the most modern and sustainable model in the Iberia fleet, with 348 seats distributed in Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. The onboard experience is designed for the Japanese traveler, with menus and entertainment in Japanese languages, as well as details inspired by Japanese culture such as green tea, rice and chopsticks.

Overall, by 2026, Iberia will offer more than 114,000 jobs on this route, with an estimated impact of almost €100 million on the GDP of Spain and Japan and the creation of around 1,900 direct and indirect jobs, thus consolidating the link as a strategic bridge between Europe and Asia.
