Free Starlink Wi-Fi on Qatar Airways long-haul flights
Qatar's national airline, Qatar Airways, consolidates its technological leadership by becoming the first carrier in the world to make Boeing 787-8s compatible with Starlink. The airline also completed the installation of satellite connectivity on its entire Airbus A350 fleet in just eight months, setting a world record and closing the program in December 2025.
Today, Qatar Airways operates around 120 widebody aircraft equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi, accounting for more than 58% of the long-haul fleet of Airbus A350s, Boeing 777s and Boeing 787s. These also include three Dreamliners already operating with active service, offering passengers one of the most advanced digital experiences ever available in flight.
Qatar Airways' Starlink program is considered the fastest and most ambitious in the history of widebody aviation: in just 14 months, the airline started and completed installation on the 777 and A350, then extended the technology to 787s as well. This achievement reinforces the airline's role as a global leader in connectivity on long haul and ultra-long haul routes, as well as confirming its leadership as the launch customer of the A350.
For passengers, the impact is already real. Since the service's debut in October 2024, more than 11 million Travellers have enjoyed the fastest gate-to-gate free Wi-Fi in the sky. In 2025 alone, Starlink connected 21 million passengers globally: almost half of these flew with Qatar Airways, making the carrier one of the world's leading players in this digital transformation.
On board aircraft, the connection reaches speeds of up to 500 Mbps, allowing continuous streaming, video calls, real-time work and smooth browsing, often exceeding the performance of many home networks. The service is progressively extended to the main destinations in America, Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, with a central hub in Doha.
Behind the scenes, Starlink also improves operational efficiency: instant communications with crews, real-time coordination with ground teams, faster medical support and monitoring of on-board systems already during the flight, reducing intervention time upon arrival.
Awarded the World's Best Airline 2025 by Skytrax for the ninth time, Qatar Airways is also the first in the MENA region to offer this technology at scale, reinforcing a reputation built on innovation, quality of service and a globally leading passenger experience.
