Sydney Airport brings duty free to baggage reclaim hall

Sydney Airport and Heinemann Australia have opened the first dedicated store for international arrivals in Australia located directly inside a baggage reclaim hall. The new space is located in Terminal 1, along the route followed by passengers after immigration control and before baggage claim. 

The goal is to bring travel retail into the natural flow of travel, taking advantage of a moment when the passenger normally has a few minutes of waiting in front of the tapes. The project was developed on the basis of the behaviors and needs detected among international Travellers. 

The new store offers a selected assortment mainly of premium spirits and fragrances. It does not replace the current duty free dedicated to arrivals, but represents an additional possibility to purchase before leaving the airport. 

For the passenger, the novelty is above all in the location: after passing immigration it is possible to go shopping while waiting for the delivery of the suitcase at the airport, without having to change one's route inside the terminal.

The initiative strengthens the partnership between Sydney Airport and Heinemann Australia and introduces a retail arrivals model particularly oriented towards managing the time spent at the airport. The airport already has several Heinemann stores in Terminal 1, including duty-free stores dedicated to arrivals. The project is significant because it brings shopping directly into the baggage reclaim area, transforming a normally passive phase of the journey into a new service opportunity for the passenger.
