SACBO protagonist of the European Sustainable Mobility Week

Milan Bergamo Airport, the first in Europe with Gold Bike Friendly certification, promotes cycling, intermodality and educational projects for a greener future

On the occasion of the European Sustainable Mobility Week (16-22 September 2025), Milan Bergamo Airport, the first European certified Bike Friendly airport, participated in the study day "Wings and Pedals: reaching the airport by bicycle", held on Tuesday 16 September at the Bologna Velostation on the initiative of FIAB Italia – Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation.

The meeting offered a discussion on policies, infrastructures and concrete actions to make Italian airports increasingly accessible to bicycles, with a focus on bike to work and cycle tourism.

Elena Massoletti, SACBO contact person for cycling at the Bergamo airport, illustrated the development programs launched to encourage the use of bicycles. Among the most important initiatives: the completion of the cycle path around the airport perimeter, integrated with the Bike Room service, and strategies to promote cycling both in support of cycle tourism and among SACBO Group employees and related workers.

A path that is transforming Milan Bergamo Airport into a true multimodal interchange platform, also in view of the activation of the railway connection.

The SACBO Group stands out for its commitment to a culture of environmental sustainability and responsible mobility. The recognition of the Gold Bike Friendly certification attests to the concrete desire to encourage the use of the bicycle as a means of transport that contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions, improving people's health and creating a more sustainable environment.

In line with these policies and continuing the pilot project launched last year for upper secondary schools, SACBO has decided to involve an even greater number of students. The initiative is aimed at all educational institutions in Bergamo and its province, offering the opportunity to develop and present projects dedicated to sustainability, intermodality and sustainable tourism, with the aim of raising awareness among the new generations and stimulating the creation of concrete ideas to improve the quality of life and the environment.

During the European Sustainable Mobility Week, SACBO also promoted new initiatives dedicated to its employees, confirming its role as a trailblazer in the promotion of green mobility in the airport sector.
