Partnership between SACBO and HPE for a more sustainable airport
A project to transform Milan Bergamo Airport into a model of sustainability and circular economy
Environmental sustainability is a central challenge for modern infrastructures and Milan Bergamo Airport, managed by SACBO, is facing this challenge with ambition thanks to the collaboration with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). The partnership aims to reduce the airport's environmental impact through innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies.
During the meeting between SACBO and HPE, represented by IT Manager Ettore Pizzaballa, the importance of rethinking electronic waste management and developing circular economy models emerged. HPE presented its upcycling programs, which involve the recovery and reuse of precious materials such as metals, plastics and rare earths from discarded technological devices. These interventions reduce the need for new resources, thus limiting the environmental impact generated by the production of new hardware.
A key element of this collaboration is the extension of the useful life of the technological devices used by the airport. Through HPE's Technology Renewal Center, SACBO can remanufacture and upgrade existing equipment, counteracting planned obsolescence and reducing the amount of e-waste generated. This approach not only promotes greater respect for the environment, but also leads to significant cost savings, improving overall operational efficiency.
The partnership represents a concrete model of how companies can collaborate to build a more sustainable future. Thanks to these initiatives, Milan Bergamo Airport is at the forefront of sustainability, promoting innovation and environmental awareness for the airport sector. This project marks a further step towards reducing the ecological footprint, with the aim of inspiring other national and international realities to take a similar path.
