Milan Malpensa inaugurates "Uprise" by Fabio Giampietro
Milan Malpensa enriches the passenger experience with a new cultural proposal. At the Porta di Milano of Terminal 1 , "Uprise", the exhibition by Fabio Giampietro, was inaugurated, a new appointment in the NICE TO MEET YOU program promoted by SEA Aeroporti Milano and produced by MEET Digital Culture Center. The exhibition brings to the airport a hybrid work designed specifically for this space of passage and meeting.
"Uprise" combines large-format painting, digital video installation and sound component in a single immersive project, conceived for the 12-meter LED video wall of the Porta di Milano, one of the most iconic places in Malpensa. The work translates in a contemporary key the research that Giampietro has been carrying out for over twenty years on the urban landscape, on perceptive vertigo and on the dialogue between pictorial matter and moving image.
At the center of the installation is a transfigured Milan, which rises, decomposes and recomposes itself in a continuous upward movement. The architectures lose stability and become a fluid environment, suspended between recognizability and abstraction. Next to the screens, five large canvases create a direct dialogue between physical painting and digital projection, while the original sound score accompanies the visual evolution of the work towards an increasingly meditative dimension.
The initiative confirms SEA's desire to make the airport not only a travel infrastructure, but also a place capable of offering cultural content to passengers. "Uprise" is in fact the sixth appointment of NICE TO MEET YOU, a project created to tell the story of Milan and Italian digital creativity through site-specific works by Italian new media artists.
Fabio Giampietro, a Milanese artist born in 1974, is considered one of the Italian pioneers of immersive art. During his career he has exhibited, among others, at Palazzo Reale in Milan, at the Venice Biennale and in international destinations such as Shanghai, Miami, Los Angeles, Berlin and Toronto; in 2017 he received the Lumen Prize for digital art.
