Ancona Airport promotes a culture of safety
There is a moment, during a formative experience, when what is studied in books takes shape in reality. This is what the students of the Master's Degree Course in Environmental Risk and Civil Protection of the Polytechnic University of Marche experienced, protagonists of an immersive day at Ancona Airport, where they were able to closely observe the operation of the airport response system to an emergency simulation.
During the exercise, the students had the opportunity to see up close what normally remains behind the scenes of a stopover: the alert chain, the firefighting means, the emergency procedures, the management of communications and the operational coordination between the different subjects involved.
Among the most significant moments of the visit, the direct confrontation with airport rescue professionals, the evacuation of a real aircraft and the concrete observation of the teamwork necessary to deal with a critical situation in the airport environment.
Experience has clearly shown how the management of an airport emergency is based on the integration of different skills, each essential within a single system oriented towards the protection of human life and airport safety.
For the students, the day represented a concrete opportunity to see the organizational models studied in the academic field applied, to recognize procedures and roles in the field, and to understand the complexity of the emergency not only as a technical event, but also as a human and organizational process, in full consistency with the civil protection approach.
The initiative is part of the broader path carried out by Ancona Airport (AOI) to promote an increasingly aware, participatory and shared culture of safety . A commitment that also passes through dialogue with schools, universities and training institutes, with the aim of bringing the new generations closer to the issues of rescue, prevention and collaboration between institutions.
