Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways partnership
From June 2025, Virgin Australia will inaugurate direct flights from Sydney to Doha and offer more choice for destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa
The Australian government has approved Qatar Airways Group's participation with a 25% stake in Virgin Australia, marking a decisive step for cooperation between the two airlines.
From June 2025, Virgin Australia will inaugurate direct flights from Sydney to Doha, fostering greater competition and contributing to a reduction in airfares. The agreement will offer travellers more choice and convenience to destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with a positive impact on Australia's tourism economy, estimated at $3 billion over the next five years.
The agreement between the two airlines also includes new opportunities for Virgin Australia pilots and flight attendants, with the possibility of secondment to Qatar Airways, thus strengthening employment growth. In addition, the collaboration will extend to sustainability initiatives to promote the use of sustainable fuels and reduce the environmental impact of the sector. The expansion of the partnership marks a strategic chapter for Virgin Australia, which returns to operate long-haul flights, benefiting from Qatar Airways' expertise and global network from Hamad International Airport (DOH).
