Qatar Airways expands free Starlink Wi-Fi on flights

There are already 150 connected long-haul aircraft, including the world's first Boeing 787-9 with Starlink; more than 23 million passengers have already used the service

Qatar Airways has reached 150 widebody aircraft equipped with Starlink and introduced the world's first Boeing 787-9 equipped with the service. The airline also completed installation on the entire Boeing 787-8 subfleet in seven months and expects to complete the rollout on all 787s by the end of 2026.

Qatar Airways' Starlink program already includes Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. Installation on the 777s was completed in nine months, while installation on the A350s took eight months.

For passengers, the benefit is the availability of a high-speed Wi-Fi connection of up to 500 Mbps, which can be used to work, browse, communicate and access online content during the flight. The service is free of charge through authentication or membership in the Privilege Club program and, where permitted by local regulations, is available from the departure gate until arrival.

Qatar Airways already uses Starlink on long- and ultra-long-haul flights across six continents, including routes to destinations in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Australasia. Since the introduction of the service in October 2024, more than 23 million passengers have connected to Starlink on more than 86,000 of the airline's flights.

The widebody aircraft installation program has now exceeded 83% completion and Qatar Airways now operates up to 323 Starlink flights per day, making high-speed connectivity available on an ever-growing share of its international network.
