Partnership between ITA Airways and Aeroitalia
ITA Airways and Aeroitalia are launching a commercial collaboration to expand passengers' travel opportunities and improve connectivity in Italy. The agreement will start progressively from July, with an interline agreement extended to the entire network of the two companies, valid for the remaining part of Summer 2026 and for the Winter 2026/2027 season.
For Travellers, the main novelty concerns the possibility of combining ITA Airways and Aeroitalia flights more easily in a single itinerary, making connections between different destinations in the network of the two carriers more accessible. The goal is to offer more flexible travel solutions, especially for those who have to reach places served by onward flights.
The collaboration also includes a Special Prorate Agreement, a commercial agreement dedicated to connecting traffic, which will allow to expand the offer available to passengers. Based on the results of this first phase, ITA Airways and Aeroitalia will evaluate any further developments of the partnership.
A relevant aspect concerns connectivity via Rome Fiumicino, ITA Airways' main hub. Once the technical implementation of the agreement has been completed, the collaboration will also be able to strengthen connections to and from Sardinia, with benefits for passengers affected by territorial continuity and, more generally, for those traveling between the island, the rest of Italy and international destinations reachable via Fiumicino.
The agreement aims to make the domestic and European offer of the two carriers more widespread, improving the possibilities of connection without immediately changing the direct operating capacity. For ITA Airways, the agreement is part of a broader strategy of commercial and intermodal partnerships, designed to feed the network of the Rome Fiumicino hub and strengthen the company's positioning in the Italian and European markets.
For Aeroitalia, the collaboration represents an opportunity to increase the accessibility of its network and offer passengers more integrated travel solutions. The agreement also enhances the role of carriers with an Italian Air Operator Certificate, helping to strengthen national mobility and the connectivity of the territories.
The partnership follows other collaborations initiated by ITA Airways with airlines and railway operators, confirming the focus on a more integrated mobility model. The goal is to improve the connections available to passengers, support tourism and make it easier to reach Italian and European destinations through coordinated transport networks.
The agreement was signed by Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways and Gaetano Intrieri, CEO of Aeroitalia.
