New premium experience on Lufthansa long-haul flights

"Fox" debuts on 6 May, the new on-board service that involves all classes of travel and focuses on personalization, comfort, gastronomic experience and exclusive moments

Lufthansa introduces the new long-haul on-board service FOX, an acronym for Future Onboard Experience, from 6 May, a project developed over two years that redefines the on-board experience on all the company's intercontinental flights.

The new concept represents one of the largest investments in Lufthansa's history to improve the passenger experience, particularly in premium classes. The project covers all four cabin classes and applies to all long-haul flights, both on and without Allegris aircraft, as well as on all types of aircraft in the intercontinental fleet. The new First Class service was introduced at the end of March, while Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class come into force from 6 May.

At the heart of FOX are three key principles: personalization, comfort and exclusive moments. Lufthansa aims to offer more freedom of choice and flexibility in all classes, accompanying the journey with details designed to increase well-being on board. The so-called "Exclusive Moments" also introduce distinctive elements that the company wants to make immediately recognizable as part of the Lufthansa experience.

For Business Class passengers, the new service focuses primarily on the dining experience. The new menus signed by Johann Lafer, already involved in Lufthansa dishes for short-haul, will bring new proposals and combinations on board. One of the main novelties concerns breakfast: guests will be able to choose the night before what they want to receive the next morning, selecting from a menu that includes, among other options, smoothies, French toast and omelettes. A new cutlery service is also making its debut in Business Class. Among the distinctive moments of the service there is also a classic coffee and cake service. Also new is "Sky Selection", which allows guests to order their second meal at any time during the flight, choosing from a selection that includes tapas bowls, currywursts and macarons.

In Premium Economy Class, Lufthansa focuses above all on comfort and a significant improvement in the meal service. The first service is enhanced with a Business Class-inspired appetizer, followed by a choice of three hot main courses accompanied by fresh, warm bread. Passengers also receive pastries or a slice of cake, while the selection of drinks is expanded with more frequent service, more variety and a new digestive service. To increase comfort during the journey, slippers are also introduced in Premium Economy.

Economy Class passengers will also benefit from several new features. For the first time, Lufthansa will introduce a courtesy kit with a sleeping mask and earplugs. Added to this are new crockery, new cutlery, new trays and a printed menu. The choice of drinks is significantly expanded. On flights longer than ten hours, passengers will be able to choose between three hot main courses instead of the two previously planned. More choice and greater personalisation are now part of the experience in Economy as well.

The launch of FOX required a significant operational and logistical organization. Lufthansa has replaced or quickly introduced 187 million pieces of crockery and cutlery, distributed at its departure airports around the world. For Business Class alone, around 300,000 main courses were purchased. The new service was tested on more than 110 test flights and took into account more than 9,000 guest feedback and more than 500 crew feedback. In preparation for the launch, 28 menu presentations were held at 57 airports around the world dedicated to employees.
