Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines strengthen partnership
Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines have announced a major step forward in their cooperation with the launch of a codeshare agreement and a mutual loyalty programme.
Under the new agreement, Hong Kong Airlines' flights between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi will now be marketed under the Etihad code "EY", while Etihad passengers will be able to continue to Japan's main destinations – Fukuoka, Sapporo, Osaka and Okinawa – on flights operated by Hong Kong Airlines under the code "HX".
Travellers will benefit from a fully integrated experience: a single ticket, single check-in and automated baggage transfer, with Abu Dhabi becoming a strategic bridge between Greater China, Japan, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
In parallel, a joint loyalty programme will be launched that will allow Etihad Guest and Fortune Wings Club members to accumulate and redeem points across both airlines' network. The agreement expands Etihad's existing collaboration with Hainan Airlines and cements Etihad Guest as the world's broadest portfolio of independent frequent flyer programme .
The relationship between the two companies began in 2014 and has remained solid over time and in recent years they have recorded a growing demand for travel from the Gulf area (GCC) to Hong Kong and other major Asian cities and Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, plays a key role in fostering economic and tourist exchanges between Hong Kong and the Middle East.
