Emirates' sustainable food logistics

The airline is bringing its expertise to the Move to -15°C coalition for the transport of perishable goods, helping to reduce the environmental impact of the global cold chain
Emirates is the first airline to join the Move to -15°C coalition, launched at COP28 in the UAE, to redefine the standards of frozen food storage, reducing energy consumption along the supply chain. The central idea is that lowering the storage temperature by three degrees can have a positive environmental impact without compromising food quality. The coalition aims to promote collaboration between different sectors to make the cold chain more sustainable.

Emirates SkyCargo, which transports between 900 and 1,000 tonnes of fresh produce daily, will provide its expertise and advanced infrastructure to help improve the frozen food supply chain.

Dennis Lister, Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, said: "The Move to -15°C coalition unites partners with common goals to transform the industry through innovation, contributing to more sustainable food logistics." Thomas Eskesen, chairman of the coalition, also stressed the value of Emirates' contribution to the crucial role of air transport in the global cold chain.

The initiative was born in 2023 with the support of refrigeration and logistics experts to create concrete and sustainable changes in the sector.
