Delta Launches Nonstop New York-Olbia Flight
Sardinia enters a new phase of its international connectivity with the arrival of Delta Air Lines' first direct flight from New York-JFK to Olbia. The connection marks a historic step for the island: it is in fact the first direct scheduled intercontinental service between Sardinia and the United States, designed to intercept the growing demand of the North American market for the destination.
The new New York JFK - Olbia flight is operational until October with four weekly frequencies, connecting the Costa Smeralda to one of the main international hubs in the United States. The opening of the route represents an important step forward in the internationalization of the territory and in the development of Sardinia's connectivity to global markets.
The arrival of the inaugural flight at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport - H.H. Prince Karim Aga Khan IV was welcomed with the traditional water cannon salute and a dedicated institutional ceremony. About 200 passengers arrived on board, a figure that confirms the interest of the US public in Sardinia and the strategic value of the new connection for incoming tourism on the island.
Also in New York-JFK, Delta celebrated its departure to Sardinia with an experience inspired by the destination: Sardinian decorations and flags, Italian music, regional sweets and a special greeting from Luca, a Delta flight attendant originally from Sardinia, accompanied customers before boarding, creating a direct connection to the island right from the gate.
The celebrations then continued upon arrival in Olbia, where airport representatives, tourism institutions, local partners and Delta teams welcomed the inaugural flight.
The launch of the route is part of the broader development of Delta's transatlantic network, which for summer 2026 includes new European and Mediterranean destinations such as Porto, Madrid, Nice, Rome and Barcelona, with Malta departing in June.
