British Airways introduces Starlink connectivity on board

Starting in 2026, it will offer its customers an unprecedented connectivity experience thanks to the next-generation satellite internet system developed by SpaceX

Starlink, based on the world's most advanced satellite constellation, orbits much closer to Earth than traditional systems, ensuring a more stable, faster and more reliable connection, even in the most remote areas and along ocean routes.

Once the installation on board is complete, all British Airways passengers (regardless of the cabin they are travelling) will have free access to Wi-Fi for streaming, work and personal communication, with a seamless internet connection from take-off to landing.

The initiative is part of the company's £7 billion transformation plan launched in 2024, a full-scale modernisation programme that has already produced over 1,000 tangible improvements in the customer experience. These include a dramatic increase in punctuality, record levels of satisfaction with in-flight service, new lounges, revamped menus, and streamlined digital processes for check-in, boarding, and customer service.

Some of the key achievements and investments of British Airways' renewal process:

  • Introduction of a new global lounge concept, already present in the new Miami lounges and Dubai lounges;
  • 15 completely renovated lounges at key airports such as Seattle, Singapore, Glasgow and London Gatwick;
  • 17 new Airbus A320neo short-haul aircraft, featuring completely redesigned cabins with seats made in the UK by British designers;
  • 36 new aircraft delivered from 2023, with further arrivals expected by 2026, including Boeing 787-10s;
  • Improvements in punctuality, with 81% of flights taking off within 15 minutes of the scheduled time in 2025, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence and predictive maintenance;
  • Enhanced customer experience in the event of disruptions, with digital vouchers for refreshments and hotels available at Heathrow and more timely and transparent communications.

Among the upcoming news, British Airways anticipates the debut of the new British Airways First Suite, with a wider bed and seat, adjustable lighting, and a 32-inch 4K screen, as well as the launch of a new mobile app for 2026, designed to simplify every step of the journey.
